Lace

Pag Island women have been making lace for centuries, and the lace made on the island is protected by UNESCO and among some of the most famous in the world. The Benedictine nuns of St. Margherita were the first teachers in the town and they founded the first school for girls where, for centuries, they taught girls how to read and write, educated them in the Christian spirit, and trained them in sewing lace free of charge.

Pag has a long and proud tradition of artisan cheese making and its sheep-milk type is considered one of the best in the world! On Pag Island, you’ll find excellent dairies Gligora, Paška Sirana and Sirana MIH, who have well-stocked stores on the island stocked with the local sheep’s cheeses.
